Work Related Stress

Work Related Stress

You may regard it as part of life but you can’t ignore it. Work related stress is a major cause of sickness absence and employers have a legal obligation to address it. However, there is also a strong business case for doing so. Interventions, espeically if early, are usually effective. We can facilitate such interventions and one of our affiliate consultants is a clinical psychologist experienced in this area.

The Legal Case

“All employers have legal responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to ensure the health safety and welfare at work of their employees. This includes minimising the risk of stress-related illness or injury to employees.” HSE

The Business Case

“Work related stress is a significant cause of illness and disease and is known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other indicators of organisational underperformance - including human error.” HSE

Whatever your personal view of stress, it is clear that in law it is something that exists and lies within the employer’s duty of care. It is also clear that it costs businesses in terms of reduced performance and direct financial cost.

Our role

We have a holistic and open-minded approach to individual stress management. We are familiar with a number of models for the evaluation and management of stress in the workplace. Generally, we favour the HSE Management Standards Approach. Accordingly, we can assist you in planning, organising and implementing a successful strategy for stress management.

Psychological & Alternative Therapies

We can also help in the evaluation and treatment of individual employees and have access to a number of treatments including psychological and alternative therapies. . Therefore, we can offer therapies ranging from CBT to hypnotherapy. Because stress is unique to every individual we adopt a highly eclectic approach allowing us to tailor the therapy to the individual.

Consultation with a Consultant Psychologist

One of our affiliate consultants is a consultant clinical psychologist, Dr Konstantinos Loumidis. Dr Loumidis has over 25 years of experience in psychological interventions and treatments. He trained and qualified in the UK and Dr Carey has worked closely with him on a number of significant cases.

I visited Dr. Carey for my recent medical, which was required for a new position I was starting in Iraq. The first thing that impressed me was how relaxed Dr. Carey made me feel on arrival. This continued through what was a very thorough, and professional examination. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Dr. Carey to anyone looking for any type of medical."

Dave Smith, Security Manager, Iraq. OGUK medical

I have just renewed my LAPL medical with David Carey - all very straight forward, sensible and efficient making it a relaxed and unusually pleasant experience considering it is a medical examination. I would have no hesitation in recommending him."
