As a Consultant Physician and a qualified Barrister (not currently registered), David is well suited to the role of a mediator. He has a relaxed but utterly professional style, and brings together his consultation and advocacy skills to create an environment of trust and confidence conducive to mediation and settlement. His natural analytical skills developed during his medical and legal training enable him to get to grips quickly with complex issues, whilst his inherent empathy and compassion allow him to contextualise each individual situation.
David’s military background, both as an aviator and doctor, ensure that his attention to detail are exacting, especially regarding preparation. His familiarity with conflict, ensure a calm approach in potentially hostile environments. Willing to challenge parties, when there is a clear need to test their wider needs or expectations, whilst remaining sensitive, and adaptable throughout the dynamic process.
Although relatively new to mediation, David won The UK Mediation Skills Competition in 2016 hosted by the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators and held at Linklaters, London. He also won the individual prize for best mediation advocate, which qualified him to represent the UK at the worldwide ICC International Commercial Mediation competition in Paris.
David is comfortable mediating in most areas, but is clearly experienced in those relating to medical or professional negligence.
